Leaves from an Australian Forest Protest

Ron Fletcher, 2014.

Forest defender Ron Fletcher was at the forefront of the fight to end logging in the old growth forests of South-East New South Wales in the late 1980’s. Blockading, dodging police and rigging platforms for tree sitters were his stock in trade. A month after he rigged the first platforms, a gale forced the tree sitters down and the trees were promptly cut down by forestry and police: it was cops & loggers 1, poets and dreamers nil. Using meter and rhyme, Ron tells his side of the conflict in trying to stop the destruction of endangered forests and wildlife. 47 pages.
